Welcome to Nurture by Design

Thoughtfully Designed Support for Families and the Professionals Who Serve Them

Every family begins their journey from a different place. Our goal is to thoughtfully design support that meets you where you are and helps you move forward with confidence.

Whether you're a parent looking for answers, a therapist strengthening your clinical reasoning, or someone who simply wants to better understand and support a child, welcome.

Nurture by Design was created around a simple belief:

When the people supporting a child feel equipped, connected, and confident, children are better able to grow, participate, and thrive.

Development doesn't happen only during therapy sessions. It happens through relationships, play, movement, routines, learning, and the countless everyday moments that shape childhood.

Our goal is to help families and professionals connect those pieces—turning understanding into meaningful support that fits real life.

This is the heart of Nurture by Design.

Why Nurture by Design?

Families today are navigating more information and more options than ever before—often alongside waitlists, limited therapy hours, changing providers, school decisions, new diagnoses, and the realities of everyday family life.

Sometimes what families need most isn't another appointment.

Sometimes they need help connecting the pieces.

What are we seeing?

Why might this be happening?

How do recommendations from different professionals fit together?

What matters most right now?

And what can we realistically do in everyday life?

Nurture by Design was created to help answer those kinds of questions.

We don't believe meaningful support is about collecting more strategies. It's about understanding the child, considering the people and environments around them, and intentionally designing support that makes participation a little easier and growth more possible.

Nurture by Design can complement traditional therapy, educational services, and other developmental supports by helping families translate information into practical next steps that make sense for their child and their life.

Our Foundation

Stacked wooden blocks display The Nurture by Design Framework, with labels like Development by Design and Relationships First on a soft beige background.

Everything at Nurture by Design is guided by six Foundation Blocks:

Relationships First

Sensory Understanding

Playing with Purpose

Development by Design

Honoring Family Culture

Small Changes Create Big Impact

Together, these principles remind us that meaningful support isn't about doing more. It's about seeing differently, responding with intention, and designing support around the child and family in front of us.

If you're new to Nurture by Design, our Nurture by Design Starter Guide offers a deeper introduction to the Foundation Blocks and the ideas that guide our work. Get it for free here!

How We Design Support

Begin with the service that your family needs.

Sometimes a family needs an in-depth consultation. Sometimes they need help thinking through one concern. And sometimes a resource or conversation provides exactly the perspective needed to take the next step.

That's why Nurture by Design offers different levels of support.

Our NEW 45-minute Parent Guidance Sessions offer an approachable place to ask questions, explore concerns, and think through possible next steps.

Think of it as an opportunity to “Ask an OT.”

You might want to talk about development, sensory processing, behavior and regulation, therapy or service planning, school concerns, everyday routines, or simply where to begin.

These sessions are intentionally conversational and do not include formal assessment, documentation, or written follow-up—making them a simple, lower-commitment way to access professional guidance.

When a deeper look would be helpful, Comprehensive Consultations & Screenings allow us to connect more of the pieces.

Together, we consider your child's strengths, current challenges, family priorities, routines, environments, and participation in everyday life. Personalized recommendations and a written summary help turn that understanding into practical next steps.

Follow-Up Support

Children change. Families change. What works today may need to evolve tomorrow.

Follow-up sessions provide space to revisit concerns, celebrate progress, problem-solve new challenges, and adjust support as your child and family grow.

Different needs. Different starting points. Different forms of support.

One shared goal: helping children participate more fully in the everyday experiences that matter.

Not every question requires an appointment.

Sometimes one new idea helps a parent understand a behavior differently. A simple visual makes a developmental concept click. Or a clinician notices something during play that changes the direction of an intervention.

Those moments matter.

Our growing collection of family resources, articles, and practical tools is designed to make child development easier to understand and easier to apply in everyday life.

Nurture by Design also creates resources for occupational therapists and other professionals who support children and families. These materials extend beyond activity ideas to encourage observation, clinical reasoning, caregiver coaching, collaboration, and thoughtful adaptation in the moment.

Because supporting a child isn't only about knowing what to do.

It's also about knowing what to notice, what it might mean, and how to respond.

What We're Creating

Our resource library continues to grow, with new tools in development for both families and professionals. Excellent care promotes development too!

Upcoming topics will explore practical ways to support development through everyday play and familiar games, how caregivers can shift their role based on what their child needs in the moment, and how professionals can strengthen observation, clinical reasoning, and purposeful use of simple therapeutic activities.

As the library grows, you can expect resources designed not simply to give you more ideas—but to help you better understand what to notice, why it matters, and how to thoughtfully respond.

Growing Together

The official launch of Nurture by Design is a beginning—not a finished product.

Our resource library will continue to grow, alongside new opportunities for parent education, professional learning, and continuing education/PDU courses.

Whatever the format—a consultation, resource, workshop, or course—the purpose remains the same:

To help families and professionals connect the pieces of child development and thoughtfully design support that helps children participate more fully in everyday life.

A Brief Note About Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is changing the way we learn, create, and work. At Nurture by Design, we use AI thoughtfully as a tool to streamline organization, creativity, efficiency, and the production process of educational materials, such as creating templates and layouts that help to disseminate content in user-friendly ways.

All professional judgment, clinical reasoning, lived interactions with families, and human review remain central throughout the development and editing process. This provides an important layer of quality control so the guidance and resources we share remain grounded in years of professional experience and expertise. AI is not yet a replacement for an individualized therapy experience.

Technology can help us organize the pieces. It cannot replace the relationships, observation, flexibility, creativity, and human connection required to understand how the many aspects of child development and your family's needs fit together.

You can learn more about Nurture by Design's approach in the AI Disclosure on the Policies page.

Welcome to Nurture by Design

Whether you arrived here searching for one answer or looking for ongoing support, I'm glad you're here.

My hope is that Nurture by Design becomes a place where families feel understood, professionals continue to grow, and complex developmental information becomes a little easier to navigate.

A place that helps you connect the pieces.

A place that reminds us that meaningful change doesn't always require doing more. Sometimes it begins with understanding something differently—and designing the next step with intention.

Because every child is different. Every family is different.

When support is thoughtfully designed, more becomes possible—for children and the people who support them.

With gratitude,
